Little Bit of History...
My mom has always been the inspiration when it comes to drawing or art in general. She used to draw quite a lot when I was younger, and I remember how me and my little sister used to sit by the table, painting whenever she would do so. Later on she moved to photography and became a professional photographer, with an eye for beauty if you ask me, but like most artists, her self-esteem chip would need replacing every now and then. ;)
I didn't take art that seriously when I was little, but I remember being very determined to become as good as my mom was. Of course at first I painted things most people do when they're little, like houses, trees, flowers... the usual. When I got older I used to like drawing Disney characters and to be honest, I still do. Later on came other fandoms and with that other subjects to draw, like horses, which would not only fill every empty piece of paper available, but all my school books also.
Only after seeing some incredibly realistic pencil portraits during a google search did I have the idea to try drawing realism myself. So I grabbed a pencil, picked a picture I wanted to try and started to draw. That lead to three pencil portraits in 2005. However, I didn't quite catch the drawing bug yet back then and even though I did try a lot of new things, I didn't draw any more than I had used to.
The true drawing bug I caught me when I joined the online community, deviantArt, in April 2007. Most of the drawings done this year (2007) are from my time on dA, apart from two or three pieces. The reason must lie in the encouragement, constructive criticism and advice of others and in the inspirating pieces of art I see there almost every day. Also for the first time I was called an artist, which felt weird to me at first. But I guess that's what I am now, an artist. :)
You'll find all my attempts at pencil drawing since 2005 along with some of my tries on other fields of art from this site. Hopefully you'll find something you like and maybe catch the drawing bug yourself. After all learning to draw takes only practise and a little bit of creativity.
